Fairtrade – “We need to start talking about social sustainability too”

Demand for organic or fairtrade cotton is higher than it has ever been and the subject of living wages is high on the agenda, at least among fair fashion brands. However, there’s very little agreement about what fair, green and sustainable actually mean in relation to textiles, not least among customers. And there is very little consensus among politicians, businesses or standard-setting bodies either. So what’s gone wrong in the latest sustainability debates? And what exactly do we mean by eco-friendly, fair production anyway? We chatted to Sabine Feuerer from Fairtrade Germany to find out more.
